We are all well aware of the fast turnover of clothing items and of the huge impact this is having on our planet. Making sure that our clothes and accessories are used for a longer time is of the utmost importance and buying PRELOVED is the best way forward if we are to head off catastrophe.

Do you have accessories which you no longer desire? Why not sell them at our 50/50 ACCESSORIES SALE in Ridlington? If your items sell, you will receive 50% of the sold price! The other 50% will go to Ridlington Church funds.

So, root out your preloved HANDBAGS, SCARVES, GLOVES, JEWELLERY, HATS AND BELTS. All pieces should be in good  clean condition please. I can buff up tired leather handbags.

Your items should be delivered to Margie Wall 8, East Lane or Debra Thatcher 3, Main Street, by Wednesday June 15th.  A written note with your name and contact details should be included with an idea of the price if you so wish.

If your item does not sell, you can take it home or leave it for the next sale.

The sale will take place at 10:30 – 12:00 on JUNE 18th at 3, Main Street, Ridlington.

You may just walk off with a great new addition to your wardrobe and with the certain knowledge that you are helping to save the planet!

Coffee, tea and cakes will be served and I’m sure much fun will be had!

We need to sell off some of the books because we are running out of space – now is your chance to grab a bargain. Donations please to Debra Thatcher.

Recommendations for this month:

“The Politics of Washing, Real Life in Venice” by Polly Cole’s – ordinary life in an extraordinary city besieged by tourists.  Beautifully written.

“The Appeal” by Janice Hallett – Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month.  This book has had glowing reviews, but didn’t really work for me.  Give it a go and let me know what you think.

“Amazing Times” articles from The Times newspaper 1945 to 1981 – a good spread, decent illustrations and amusing stories – one for the smallest room?

“Blott on the Landscape” by Tom Sharpe – I echo my comments on Porterhouse Blue from last month.

Items needed:

Sleeping bags, 2-person tents (not pop-up as these are not weatherproof and they blow away), yoga/camping mats, trainers with good soles sizes 8 – 10, torches, stoves, anything camping related.

Men’s jeans 30” – 32” waist, M/L joggers or similar, winter/waterproof coats M/L, new/unused boxers medium, new/unused socks

Dog food – self-opening cans or dried food

Homeless people are rarely XL so please no bigger than large size.

Neither duvets nor pillows can be accepted.

Many thanks for your generous donations and your ongoing support

CHURCHYARD MAINTENANCE PLAN
A copy of the plan is now pinned up in the church porch.  Offers of assistance to Richard or Debra Thatcher.

RIDLINGTON OPEN GARDENS
Sunday, June 12th from 2pm to 5pm
Why not enjoy tea and a lovely slice of cake during a visit to seven beautiful gardens open in aid of church funds. £5 entrance fee (children under 10 and well-behaved dogs free).

WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
If you have ever wondered how true to life Rumpole or Judge John Deed is now is the time to find out.  Come along to Ridlington church at 7:30pm on Friday, 15th July for the opportunity to listen to Richard Thatcher’s tales from the criminal bar – some of the amusing bits with an opportunity to ask questions.  Bring your own refreshments.  Retiring collection in aid of church funds.

Demand remains high so every donation makes a huge difference -please continue to be generous.

The next collection will be on Wednesday 20th April.

Microwaveable rice sachets, sugar, instant coffee, UHT milk, pasta sauces, long-life juice, pot noodles and deodorants requested.

Please feel free to borrow the books from the church or, if you would like to keep one, please make a donation. Donated books and payment to be passed to Debra Thatcher.

A mixed bag of books for April – placed on the small table so that they are easy to locate.

First, a biography of cricket umpire, Dickie Bird. It is the updated edition and sold well on publication. As befits this gentle man his story is very gently told. I found it of interest although not the hugest fan of cricket.

Secondly, a copy of the script of the 2009 play “Enron”, based on the huge financial scandal. Some of the language in the script will be seen as challenging to some.

Lastly this month, “Porterhouse Blue” by Tom Sharpe, which was dramatised some years ago with David Jason playing the porter at the college. This was a re-read for me and, although I found it amusing a word of warning – it reflects the language and thoughts of the time it was written.

Postcards also available to purchase in the church.

We are close to achieving bronze award status.  We need to undertake some additional work in the area of “lifestyle” and are considering ideas such as 50/50 clothes  sales, a village free cycle.  For more information, please contact Debra Thatcher.
