SOCIAL NIGHT – VILLAGE HALL – DECEMBER 15TH

Come join us in the Village Hall for a festive tipple and start your Christmas cheer early….

The Village Hall is holding it’s annual Social Night on Friday, December 15th at 7:00 pm.

Various drinks and seasonal snacks will be on tap. There will also be  non alcoholic and soft drinks available for those who have to drive home or are under age.

If you have not yet got yourself or a loved one a Christmas wreath, you can buy one on the evening, kindly handmade by Jan Powley and all proceeds will go to charity.

As we approach the end of the year, thoughts turn to 2024 village rotas.

If you would like to assist with magazine distribution, unlocking/locking the church, flower arranging, cleaning, setting up for or reading at services, providing refreshments after services, mowing the churchyard, please let Debra know.

BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!

 

A combination of travel writing, nature and autobiography starts us off this month.

“The Snow Geese” by William Fiennes is beautifully observed and written.  If you want an “escape” in December, this one is for you.

“War Paint” is a biography of Elizabeth Arden and Helena Rubinstein – two extraordinary women who forged empires in the beauty business and who led the way in marketing in the 20th century.

Crime writing this month is represented by “Barking Mad” by Leigh Russell, a cosy crime plot which would have benefitted from better proof reading, and by Agatha Christie’s “The Thirteen Problems” – 13 short stories, and our introduction to Miss Marple with her insights into human nature – a good read.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES – SAVE THE DATES

 

“Follow the Star: Join the Song” – centuries after the angels and shepherds sang,  singing is still central to how many of us celebrate Christmas.  We invite you this Christmas to follow the star, journey to the manger, join the song and come into the presence of Jesus Christ.

Our Carol Service is at 6pm on Sunday, 17th December followed by mulled wine and nibbles.

Our Christmas Day service on Monday 25th December, is at 9:30am.

POPPY APPEAL 2023 – A HUGE THANK YOU!

A time for reflection…. yes it certainly is in so many ways…

The British Legion Poppy Appeal Remembrance Afternoon Tea this year in the Village Hall, was an outstanding success and it demonstrated that when people come together great things can be achieved.

From all of you who attended the event and to the many of you who knitted, baked, donated and helped in various ways – thank you all so much! Your generosity made a hugely positive contribution to the total amount raised. It was an astonishing £761.

We have been reliably informed that the winning prize – “The Stone of Remembrance” a Rich Chocolate Cake – was admired and enjoyed by friends and family.

The work of the Royal British Legion continues to be as relevant today as when it was when it first started.

THANK YOU All once again for your tremendous support.
