UPDATE ON THE COMMUNITY MEDICINES COLLECTION SCHEME

We have been operating the Scheme since 23rd March and have so far collected prescriptions for 23 villagers.  This not only saves trips to the pharmacies by villagers themselves but reduces the number of contacts the pharmacists have thus reducing the risk of infection.

I am grateful to both Octavia and Alison for undertaking the weekly collections from Uppingham and Oakham respectively and then attending to the distribution of the prescriptions in the village.  They are doing a great job.  I am grateful also to the others who are on the reserve list for collections.

The pharmacy at Uppingham surgery tell us that they are so busy they need to know by Tuesday afternoon at the latest what prescriptions we want to collect on the Friday.  At present, Boots next to the Oakham doctors has greater flexibility but we only want to make one collection a week from each pharmacy so please provide plenty of notice.

My contact details are debrathatcher@hotmail.com or 01572 823910.

Thank you.

INFORMATION FROM RUTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

The County Council’s website (www.rutland.gov.uk) is being re-organised to make more readily available helpful information:

  • For businesses, employers and the self-employed including links to funding and grants.  RCC has already paid £3.5million of grant payments to 306 local businesses.  See also, www.businesssupport.gov.uk;
  • For individuals – details of neighbourhood schemes, changes and closures of Council services.  In addition, activities and material to support those educating or entertaining children can be found on the Council’s Facebook and twitter channels and on the library’s website; and
  • For volunteers – a section dedicated to signposting residents to volunteering opportunities in the county.

We have also been asked to raise awareness of The Silent Solution system, arising out of the police’s concerns of an increase in reported incidents of domestic abuse.

It has been designed for victims who might be afraid of further danger and escalation of harm if heard making a 999 call.  So, on making a 999 call and being asked by the operator which emergency service is required, press 55 and the operator will transfer the call to the relevant police force as an emergency.

SSAFA, The Armed Forces Charity Helpline

Once they know of a serviceperson, veteran or family in need their local branch gets in touch and provides assistance. Please see their website for further details www.ssafa.org.uk

The confidential helpline is: 0800 731 4880
