RIDLINGTON VILLAGE HALL – APRIL 2021 UPDATE

The Village Hall has been closed since last year’s lockdown began. During that time it has been maintained and checked for its security in line with the insurers requirements. It is now open but subject to the government’s Covid-19 regulations which severely inhibit the usual activities until at least June 21st when the government’s road map will hopefully allow things to return to something like pre – Covid-19.

The first use of the Hall since re-opening will be as a polling station for the election of Leicestershire & Rutland Police Commissioner on May 6th. Followed by the Annual Parish Meeting and Parish Council Meeting both on May 19th.

If anyone should be interested in hiring the Village Hall, please visit the government website and read exactly what you are able to do inside & outside Village/Community Halls.

At present social distancing (which limits the numbers allowed in the Hall ) rule of 6, mask wearing, having to have the door and windows open for ventilation, the need to sanitise apply, amongst other things. Then if you wish to hire the Hall please contact me.

The Village Hall Committee report for 2020 and Accounts will be posted on  the website, in early May together with a hard copy displayed on the notice board in the Village Hall porch. Both items will also be presented to the Parish Annual Meeting on May 19th.

Regarding the Village Hall’s finances no fundraising has been possible during lockdown but the Hall has, in line with other village  halls and community centres been given grants under the government’s ‘Retail, Leisure and Hospitality’ scheme as the Hall, although exempt from payment of rates, is rated as a business and is also a registered charity.

We are extremely fortunate in that the amount of money we have received more than compensates for loss of income from fundraising events and hire fees, and more than meets our fixed costs expenditure of insurance, utilities etc which despite lockdown still have to be met.

As for any future Village Hall Committee organised events such as coffee mornings, Quiz or a suggested Pub Night this year, we will have to wait and see what is possible. We are keen to get the Hall used again but only if what we can do is enjoyable and people feel happy and safe to attend.

BUNTIE AND DAFFERS

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may remember us from ‘An Audience with ‘Buntie and Daffers” which was an event held in Ridlington Village Hall on Friday, September 7th 2019 to support the Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance service.

We have ended 2020 with a book – ” Two Mad Bags” – A series of short stories about life in an Ambulance by Buntie & Daffers – it is all about what we get up to.

It is available for purchase on Amazon and in Waterstones’ Bookstores.

So while you are locked down and there is nothing else to do, make yourself a cup of tea and have a read.

RIDLINGTON VILLAGE HALL NEWS

Due to the Covid – 19 requirements Village Hall events are currently suspended. The Hall can be used but it becomes very onerous both on the Committee and users for enjoyable events such as coffee mornings or Quiz’s to take place.

The hall is checked weekly and kept clean, as are the gardens kindly looked after by Mike Grey.

The 2019 annual report and accounts should have been presented at the Parish Meeting in May but Rutland CC decided because of Corvid to delay all annual parish meetings to next year. The quarterly Parish Council meetings continue but on Zoom which any member of the public can log into.

With regard to our finance’s the Village Hall along with businesses, sports clubs and various other qualifying organisations was awarded a grant of £10,000 as part of the Government’s aid packages. This is to compensate for lack of hire fees and fundraising income, and to pay outgoings such as insurance, utility bills and other unavoidable things such as general maintenance.

Ridlington Walking Group

The Ridlington Walking Group monthly walks recommenced successfully in July.

The next walk will take place on Wednesday 5th August starting at 2pm outside the Village Hall.

Again, there will be 6 places available, in the first instance, so please contact Anne Harvey at acharvey@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to come along.

The activity will be safely organised with both risk assessment and social distancing measures in place.

RIDLINGTON WALKING GROUP

Our monthly walks will recommence on Wednesday 1st July starting at 2pm outside the Village Hall as we are now able to exercise with up to 6 people and I am happy to prepare an appropriate risk assessment for the event.

There will be 6 places available, in the first instance, so please contact Anne Harvey at acharvey@hotmail.co.uk if you would like to come along.

If there are more, then I suggest we have 2 groups with staggered start times and perhaps have 2 walks planned – one longer/one shorter…both starting from the Village Hall, as usual.

The activity will be safely organised with both risk assessment and social distancing measures in place.

Ridlington Village Hall Relaunch Event

The revamped village hall was opened to the public on Sunday 25th February. Some 38 villagers came to view the completed work and to enjoy the drink, nibbles and the general get together.

The committee is delighted with the positive response received and as one member of the community put it – “ Congratulations to everyone involved – a transformation!! “

Again, this work would not have been possible without the donations and time given by people within the community over the years. Thanks to them.

The Village Hall New Year’s Update

Old for new regeneration of teh Village Hall

The re-decoration of the hall including the floor being sanded and treated will be completed by the end of January. The new lightweight foldable chairs together with new lighting will also be done by the end of the month.

During February or March, a Sunday lunchtime social will be organised so villagers will be invited to come along and see the revitalised hall.

A further update….

The renovation in the Village Hall is still on schedule and will be completed in the New Year after which an Open Day will be organised and a date advised.

We look forward to the Hall being used more often for private and public functions throughout the New Year.
